This Supernatural Story
The acclaimed director challenges his film-making abilities with this clever supernatural story shot entirely from the perspective of the spirit. When a household featuring mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe occupies their new suburban house, the lens – representing the ghost – tracks their movements. Chloe seems conscious of the supernatural presence, and it seems guarding her. But why? It's a fun idea that doesn't outstay its welcome, with a twist that may be unexpected. This Creepy Thriller
Derrickson's contained scarefest holds up well even without a continuation. Taking place in 1978 Denver, several disappearances has made the local kids on edge. After Finney is taken by the kidnapper and held captive in a dungeon, he dreads a terrible outcome. Yet the non-functional line in the room repeatedly calls, with ghostly voices giving advice, while the prophetic visions from his sibling Gwen might rescue him. A solid creepfest. Saturday 11 October, 10.50pm, Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for materialism in this director's wonderfully garish true story of the disgraced TV preacher and her felon spouse. Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who proclaims initially, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye commence capitalizing on the American public's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, overdone appearance and bad faith, though Chastain succeeds to show the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, Film4

Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela join in the intelligent intelligence fun. This Friday, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema
